I’m feeling nostalgic because 22 years ago today I moved to New Mexico. Since it was the start of my entrepreneurial journey planting the seeds of VelaMira, I used to call it my personal independence day. Soon after, I met many people at networking events and then connected with them on LinkedIn. (Back when we were purists and would only connect with someone AFTER we’d met them!)
It’s hard to believe that it’s been this long because sometimes I still feel like a teenager at heart. (That is, until my preteen and teenage daughters remind me otherwise!) There have been periods of expansion and contraction, successes and failures, enduring relationships and those that have gone to the wayside. All of those were necessary and shaped who I am and what VelaMira is today.
I’m celebrating my personal independence day in two ways today. First, I’ve been busy preparing for the launch of my memoir, Unpacking My Boxes: A Projector’s Journey Home. I started down a path working with a publisher, but have decided to go the indie route. The new launch date for my memoir is September 25. Second, and related to the first, I took a hiatus from the LinkedIn newsletter as I reassessed my marketing efforts. I’ve decided to move to a new platform after the book launch where I can interact more directly with the subscribers.
Whether you are a “day one fan” or came along for the ride at different points in my journey, thank you for your support over the years. I’m so excited for what’s to come and hope to inspire you in your personal independence as well.
